Upgrade Your AppSheet Apps With These Cool New Features: Part 2

Last week we posted some of the new features we've added to the AppSheet platform over the past few months.

This week we have a few more new features to talk about-- we hope you will try them out to see how they can enhance your DIY mobile apps!

  • New data types: include further information about the entries in your app. These are especially useful for project management. See how these new data types work in a sample app.
    • Color type-- you can now color code entries in your app with a subset of 6 standard colors. Use colors to provide more detail about the nature or status of an entry.

    • Progress type-- show the progress of an entry by utilizing a ‘Harvey Ball’ ideogram. This helpful tool allows users to quickly view the status of an entry or project.Screen Shot 2015-01-26 at 4.36.38 PM
  • New 'change' types: include further information about changes made in the app, like when or how many times an entry has been edited. You can also decide to constrain your app to react to changes only on specific columns. Click the link above to see how change types work.
  • New default function:
    • _UNIQUE-- you can use the '_UNIQUE' default value to generate a random text key for each entry. Some app creators may want the app to automatically generate a unique key for each row entry-- for example, this would be useful in an order capture app where each order needs to be completely independent and unique from the others. See how the '_Unique' function works in a sample app.Screen Shot 2015-01-26 at 4.57.19 PM
  • New row filters:
    • IsEmpty, IsNotEmpty-- you can choose to filter out rows based on the contents (or lack thereof) of the row.
    • GreaterThan, LessThan-- you can use these functions to filter rows relative to a specific date.Screen Shot 2015-01-26 at 4.04.08 PM
